A stroke victim believes his illness has had a miraculous effect on his eyesight.
Short-sighted Malcolm Darby, of Preston, in Oakham, wore glasses every day for 60 years, until he was struck down by a stroke.
While recovering in hospital, despite being unable to speak or move his right arm, the retired 70-year-old discovered his eyesight was improving.
Mr Darby said: "The first thing I noticed was that I could read the newspaper being held by a patient in the opposite bed.
"But when I put my glasses on, I couldn't see properly. I thought the stroke had worsened my eyesight and I needed new glasses."
