SKYGAZERS across Birmingham have been left mystified by a series of strange orange lights appearing over city rooftops.

There have been at least four incidents in the last 10 days of glowing orb-like shapes moving through the night sky above homes, which have been highlighted by Birmingham Mail readers.

Those who have witnessed the phenomenon are certain that they have had a brush with life from another planet.

But UFO experts say the most likely explanation for the sightings is the growing popularity of Chinese-style paper lanterns which can soar to hundreds of feet.
