When Desmond James joined the navy in Canada, he never expected to end up in the mountains of a landlocked American state.

The former Hamiltonian is posted to the Colorado headquarters of the North American Aerospace Defence Command, whose role is to monitor the continent's skies for enemy missiles and terrorist threats.

And now, the 39-year-old lieutenant is charged with one of the binational security agency's most crucial air surveillance responsibilities: Tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve.
