A unique collection of gold items dating back thousands of years has been discovered in Hungary.
Several thin gold sheets thought to have been used to cover the eyes and mouth of a corpse were found by archaeologists in a grave near Szeged, MTI reports.
The relics are believed to date back to the period when Hungarian tribes first began arriving in the Carpathian basin.
Tibor Paluch, an archaeologist at the Ferenc Mora Museum in Szeged, said the gold sheets would have been used to protect the deceased's soul.
